Prices for high-quality raw jade and jade products are skyrocketing due to growing demand from wealthy Chinese buyers and fears of a shortage in Burma, the main source of the gemstone, AFP reports. “We are forced to raise prices—it is increasingly hard to get high-quality raw jade from Myanmar. If you do not pay more, the good raw materials will be owned by the others,” Hong Kong jade dealer Li Kwong-kei told AFP. Jade prices have been rising for eight consecutive years and experts say that the bubble must soon burst as prices are becoming prohibitive.
