India has called on Burma to do more to suppress northeast Indian insurgency groups who operate from Burmese territory, according to Hueiyen Lanpao, a publication based in Imphal, Manipur state. Indian officials raised their concerns over the separatist groups during a meeting with Burmese officials in Bagan on June 19-20, Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told reporters in New Delhi. The groups have been involved in a decades-old insurgency in northeastern India and are based along the remote Burma-Indian border. The minister said both countries had agreed to cooperate to prevent cross border movement of insurgents and to end arms and drugs smuggling.
