Dozens of monks were displaced after the Burma Army shelled a Buddhist temple in central Shan State and turned it into a military base, a local rights group said on Wednesday. The attack on June 23 in Wan Warb village, 30 kilometers from the headquarters of the Shan State Army-North, violated a ceasefire with Shan rebels, leaving one civilian dead and four injured, the Shan Human Rights Foundation said. More than 30 monks and novices were displaced, the foundation said, in the latest operation in recent months by government soldiers in the east Burma state.
