Imprisoned former Military Intelligence officers will not be among those released as a committee continues to study the cases of political prisoners in Burma, Mizzima reported. “From my personal point of view, these former MIS officers were imprisoned on grounds of political grudges and allegiances,” Nyo Tun, chairman of the Former Political Prisoners Federation, was quoted as saying. “However, the government is not going to release them.” A committee was formed in February to review the status of Burma’s remaining political prisoners. Following several amnesties by President Thein Sein, the remaining political prisoner tally is estimated at less than 200.
