At least three Myanmar junta police officers were reportedly killed and five others injured when resistance forces attacked a police outpost on the Yangon-Mandalay highway in response to Sunday’s vehicle ramming of peaceful protesters in Yangon.
A combined civilian defense force from four townships in Mandalay Region said it attacked the outpost with explosives on Monday morning and reported the death toll.
The Irrawaddy could not independently verify any of the reports.
There was another attack on Myanmar’s busiest highway on November 9, which reportedly left five police officers dead.
A resistance group claimed responsibility for the Monday attack.
“We threw homemade bombs at the police outpost in retaliation for the Kyimyindaing protest killings on Sunday,” a representative said in reference to the junta vehicle ramming into a peaceful protest in Yangon.
There has been a series of resistance attacks after videos of the Kyimyindaing attacks went viral, prompting nationwide mourning and anger.
At least eight regime troops were reportedly killed on Sunday alone.
The Yangon Military Division resistance group vowed to take revenge and said it conducted attacks on Sanchaung, Hlaing Tharyar, Yankin, Tamwe and Kamayut townships in Yangon following Sunday’s atrocity.
