Myanmar’s civilian National Unity Government (NUG) claims its armed groups and their allies killed about 330 regime soldiers in upper Myanmar last month.
The shadow defense ministry said on Thursday that 430 incidents, including 189 raids, 101 mining ambushes, 56 drone strikes and 65 shootouts, were reported in August in the NUG’s Military Region 1, which covers Sagaing, Magwe and Mandalay regions and northern Shan State.
The junta responded with eight airstrikes and a drone attack.
The ministry estimated that 330 regime soldiers were killed and 454 injured while 18 resistance fighters were killed and 55 injured.
Junta weapons and four drones were seized along with a large quantity of ammunition.
The Irrawaddy could not independently verify the reports.
Fighting continues across the area with the powerful Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) increasing its offensives against the regime.
On Friday morning, resistance groups raided two military bases in Taze town, Sagaing Region, killing more than 20 soldiers and pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia members and occupying their bases.
Clashes between the TNLA and regime forces have been reported in Muse, Kutkai and Kyaukme townships in northern Shan State and Mogoke and Pyin Oo Lwin townships in northern Mandalay Region.
The TNLA and Mandalay resistance groups have been conducting the joint anti-regime Operation Kanaung since July 15.
On Tuesday, around 17 resistance fighters from three townships occupied and destroyed all the junta offices, except a police station, in Kamma near Pakokku in Magwe Region.
Reinforcements sent to Kamma were attacked by resistance drones on Thursday while returning to their bases, according to Myaing People’s Defense Force that conducted the raids and drone strikes.
In July, an estimated 439 incidents were reported in the military region, leaving around 400 regime soldiers dead and 574 injured. Resistance groups lost 26 fighters and reported 59 injuries.
Myanmar’s junta faces near-daily resistance attacks across the country, except in Rakhine State where the Arakan Army and the regime agreed a ceasefire last November.
