Burmese authorities warned on Wednesday that recent seizures of heroin and amphetamine tablets indicate that the country is facing a worsening drug problem. “The drug problem is very dangerous now in Myanmar,” said a police official quoted by AFP after 116 kg of heroin and 1.4 million amphetamine pills were seized during recent raids. Official media reported on Wednesday that 473 suspects had been arrested in 342 drug-related cases across the country in July. Of particular concern was the spread of amphetamine tablets to major cities, said officials.
