Yangon – Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Than Myint is currently on leave due to health problems, according to the permanent ministerial secretary, U Khin Maung Lwin.
The minister reportedly suffered from gallstones after attending the 30th anniversary of the Common Fund for Commodities from Dec. 3-4 in The Hague, the Netherlands.
“He suffered on his return. He received treatment in Singapore, before receiving further treatment in Yangon. He is due to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday and return to Naypyitaw,” U Khin Maung Lwin told The Irrawaddy.
It remains unclear when the 76-year-old will be able to return to work.
Similarly, the vice chairman of the National League for Democracy, Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, is struggling with leukemia and has taken a break since November.
In July, Electricity and Energy Minister U Win Khine had to take a leave due to health problems. He has since returned to work.
