The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, a Thailand-based advocacy group for Burmese prisoners of conscience, released a statement on Friday calling on Burma’s government to give alleged torture victim La Htaw Brang Shawng immediate access to medical care. The 25-year-old ethnic Kachin man, who was arrested on June 17 on suspicion of involvement in a bomb plot, was tortured for three days in Myitkyina Prison, the group said. AAPP Joint-Secretary Bo Kyi said those responsible for torturing La Htaw Brang Shawng should also be brought to justice.
