China’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the situation along its southern border with Burma’s Kachin State is “stable,” according to Chinese news agency Xinhua. “The situation on the Chinese side of the border with Myanmar is currently stable,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said, adding that China was urging both parties to open dialogue and implement a ceasefire. “We believe that talks are the only correct solution to the north Myanmar conflict and expect all related parties to seek a ceasefire,” Hong said. China has expressed its concern over the fighting between the Burmese government and Kachin rebels on several occasions, after Burmese artillery shells fell on Chinese soil.
