Junta forces have confiscated more homes from lawmakers of Myanmar’s ousted ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), accusing them of being affiliated with civilian resistance forces fighting the regime.
On Thursday last week, security forces sealed off the residences of NLD lawmakers Daw Zin Ni Ni Win, U Thet Kyu and U Pike Ko in Pakkoku town of Magwe Region. U Pike Ko is a former MP elected in 2012 and 2015 and the chairman of the town’s NLD chapter. The other two were elected as lawmakers in 2015 and 2020.
The junta has charged them with sedition under Section 505-A, which carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment. They are in hiding.
A relative of one of the trio confirmed the confiscations.
After sealing off the homes on Thursday, junta forces placed a large notice at the entrance of each building reading: “This land and building are confiscated as state property for having connections with the terrorist PDF.”
The regime has branded civilian resistance groups, known locally as People’s Defence Forces (PDFs), and the shadow National Unity Government (NUG) as terrorist organizations.
Similiary, about five houses of NLD members and lawmakers in Kenma Township and Nat Mauk in the same region were grabbed recently.
In addition to arbitrary arrests and killings of political activists, especially NLD members, junta forces have been grabbing properties and houses of political dissidents across the country, accusing them of having links to the NUG.
Properties and houses of NLD members and NUG-linked activists in Sagaing, Tanintharyi, Magwe and Mandalay regions and Chin State have been seized. Among those who have had homes seized is Dr. Lian Mmung Sakhong, who heads the NUG’s Federal Affairs Ministry and is also vice chairman of the Chin National Front.
According to sources, the junta seized about 100 properties and houses from NLD- and NUG-linked activists, including about 40 in Sagaing Region and over 20 in Magwe Region.
