A senior government official vowed to prosecute those found responsible for weeks of riots in western Burma’s Arakan State, according to a report by state media on Sunday. The government will “bring about justice and prosecute offenders without bias,” The New Light of Myanmar quoted Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Thein Htay as saying. “Lawlessness is unacceptable,” he said, vowing to “bring offenders to justice and restore stability as soon as possible.” At least 50 people were reported killed during nearly two weeks of clashes between Buddhists and Muslims in the state.
