Junta forces killed two people including a resistance member and arrested 13 other people during a series of raids in Magwe Region’s Myaing Township that began early this month following the arrival of a junta platoon.
A member of Myaing People’s Defense Force (PDF) was killed by junta troops during a predawn raid on Kan Gyi Yoe Village on Saturday.
“He was shot dead when he tried to escape with his father. His house was immediately seized by junta troops shortly after they advanced on the village,” a representative of Myaing PDF said.
His father narrowly escaped being captured by junta troops, he added.
Eight village residents were also arrested during the junta raid on Saturday.
“Another three people were captured before junta troops raided Kan Gyi Yoe Village. We don’t know their identities yet,” a resistance member said.
The junta battalion raided Chaung U To Village later that day and then stationed itself at Yin Ma Kyin Village during the night. It seized a resistance camp in Thin Paung Kan Village the next day, destroying a vehicle and several motorcycles.
There were no reported casualties as resistance forces fled the camp in advance.
However, an 18-year-old boy and his father were arrested and tortured by junta troops in Thin Paung Kan Village on Monday, but both were later released, sources said.
Detainees were reportedly used as human shields and forced to carry heavy baggage.
Resistance forces confirmed that one of the detainees was killed by junta troops on Monday, while the fate of the remaining 10 detainees remains unknown.
In an earlier incident, another 11 detainees captured by junta troops in April, remain missing and are presumed dead, according to the Myaing PDF.
On Wednesday, junta infantry looted Kone Village and loaded the stolen items and food onto a truck to transport to Wet Poke Village, which is controlled by a pro-junta militia.
More than 10 clashes erupted in Myaing after a column of 200 junta troops from Pakokku were dispatched to the township in early September.
At least six junta troops were reportedly killed and another six were injured in drone attacks and landmine ambushes conducted by resistance forces.
The Irrawaddy was unable to verify the casualty figures.
Nearly 1,000 residents from three villages near Wet Poke Village were displaced on Wednesday.
