HONG KONG—Hong Kong police on Sunday fired tear gas and water cannon at several hundred demonstrators who gathered to protest plans by China to implement a controversial national security law on the former British territory.
The unauthorized protest in the Causeway Bay district was one of the largest mass gatherings in Hong Kong since the global COVID-19 pandemic began.
