Myanmar’s Miss World contestant Khisa Khin delivered a message about the deaths of schoolchildren caused by the recent earthquake and the ongoing civil war in her home country.
“Their school uniforms, books, and bags… all soaked in blood,” she said at the ongoing pageant in India. On May 12, a junta airstrike on a village school in Depayin Township, Sagaing Region killed 22 children and two young teachers, injuring several dozen others. The March 28 earthquake claimed the lives of 12 children and a female teacher at a private preschool in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region.
