Women in Myanmar continue to face domestic violence and sexual assault but women’s rights and equality activists vow to continue their activism.
For International Women’s Day on March 8, a protest by civil society organizations from Thailand and Myanmar took place in Chiang Mai. The Irrawaddy talked to rights advocates about their efforts in building a peaceful society and to boost equality.
Placards highlighted discrimination based on sexual orientation, equal pay and recognition of women’s health and social needs.
Women’s rights and LGBTQ activists told The Irrawaddy how to end gender-based discrimination and exclusion.
They urged women to stand together with conviction to bring down the military dictatorship in Myanmar and build a lasting peace.
