An altercation erupted between the ethnic Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in Kutkai, northern Shan State, after TNLA troops confronted MNDAA members collecting donations on the highway for earthquake victims.
A violent altercation ensued, which was reportedly caused by the language barrier. TNLA officials say their officer was only asking the MNDAA for a temporary halt as a senior Ta’ang leader was about to arrive. Leaders from both sides later stepped in to defuse the situation.
The TNLA seized Kutkai town during the anti-regime Operation 1027 in January last year.
