The Chin Brotherhood on Friday said 168 regime soldiers and police along with their families surrendered to the regional rebel alliance during Operation CB aimed at seizing Mindat and Falam townships in southern Chin State.
The alliance of six ethnic resistance groups formed after the 2021 coup launched the operation on Nov. 9 and has since seized several regime bases and positions in and around Mindat town.
Chin Brotherhood forces have continued to attack Mindat District Police Station and Infantry Battalion 274 headquarters.
“During the attacks, a total of 123 military and police troops stationed in the police station surrendered to the CB alliance along with their family members,” a member of the brotherhood said.
Earlier, another 45 police officers surrendered in Falam Township.
The CB alliance has now seized Falam Police Station, the Department of Construction, the Department of General Administration, and Hospital Hill in the township.
At the same time, another resistance alliance of Chinland Council (CC) forces led by the Chin National Army (CNA) launched Operation Jericho and captured Timit Plain between the state capital Hakha and Thantlang.
It seized seven junta outposts in the plain and is now taking control of the entire area. This offers Chin forces a bridgehead to launch attacks on Hakha, which remains in junta hands, and allows it to cut off the regime’s supply and reinforcement route to Thantlang.
In Mindat and Falam, CB forces are escalating their fight to seize remaining junta bases and outposts.
In a statement Friday, the CB vowed to redouble attacks on the remaining junta bases in Mindat and Falam and pledged to continue fighting with allied forces “to liberate the whole of Chin State from the hands of the military junta.”
Since the popular uprising began, newly formed Chin resistance groups and the CNA—the armed wing of the oldest Chin armed organization, the Chin National Front (CNF)—have seized 11 towns across the state’s nine townships.
The Arakan Army (AA) from neighboring Rakhine State, meanwhile, has seized Chin State’s Paletwa township at the border between the two.
