Mandalay People’s Defense Force (PDF) on Tuesday claimed to have seized two more junta bases in Madaya Township, threatening the Mandalay city to the south.
The PDF said it seized a position at the Alpha cement factory and the Taung Tanngar village base along with weapons and ammunition.
The group’s photos showed around 23 junta troops’ bodies.
The cement factory is about 25km north of Mandalay, where the junta’s Central Military Command is based.
Junta troops burned down the factory before fleeing, the PDF said.
The PDF said it was also attacking the junta’s Kyauk Tan base in Madaya Township.
The group said 28 junta bases, including police stations and an air-defense battalion headquarters in Madaya, have fallen since June 25.
In adjacent Singu Township, Mandalay PDF and other resistance groups said they had seized Singu town after occupying over 12 regime positions in the township.
On Tuesday, the junta airstrikes targeted Singu amid fighting in the town, destroying around 100 homes, according to residents.
Singer Ta Tha Tha, who had been held at Singu police station, posted on Facebook that she and other six detainees escaped on Monday after the police fled.
Amid heavy junta bombardments, her manager and volunteers broke open the police cells, she said.
Resistance sources told The Irrawaddy that revolutionary groups took control of the town on Wednesday morning and over 100 regime troops had been detained.
The Irrawaddy could not independently verify the reports.
Mandalay PDF has been cooperating in Operation 1027 with the Brotherhood Alliance, attacking regime targets in Kyaukme, Nawnghkio and Mongmit townships in northern Shan State as well as Madaya, Singu and Mogoke townships in northern Mandalay Region since June 25.
It said it had seized more than 40 junta bases in Madaya and Singu townships since June 25.
