Mandalay People’s Defense Force (PDF) says it has seized 11 Myanmar junta bases in Singu Township, Mandalay Region, in eight days, in a move to control the Mandalay-Mogoke road.
The Singu attacks by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and its PDF allies began on June 30. The PDF said bases at Kyi Tauk Pauk, Kan Taung, Pin Lal Gyi and Shwe Pyi and Lat Pan Hla police station have reportedly fallen since Wednesday.
The group said Lieutenant Colonel Hlaing Htun Aung of Thabeikkyin Township and 15 other junta troops have been detained.
The PDF said pro-junta Phyu Saw Htee militias have been surrendering.
It said Doe New Ywar, Namp Hut, Mar Lae Sal and Ywar Taw Lay bases and Nwal Yone police station were earlier seized in Singu Township.
The group said arms and ammunition had been seized from the bases and helicopter airdrops.
“The Singu operation is very important to gain control of the Mandalay-Mogoke road,” PDF spokesman Ko Osmond told The Irrawaddy.
The PDF said on Saturday that it has also been on the offensive in Madaya Township since June 25 with 25 junta positions falling.
The group said it was also attacking junta targets in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mogoke, Patheingyi, Amarapura and Thabeikkyin townships.
The PDF is also taking part in Ta’ang National Liberation Army offensives in northern Shan State.
The PDF said it was founded in February 2021 in TNLA territory in northern Shan State.
