Monday (Aug. 27)
At the Union Parliament, the Joint Public Accounts Committee submitted its assessment of the audit report of the Union Auditor General’s Office for the 2016-17 fiscal year. Lower House lawmaker U Bo Gyi of Chauk Township urged the Parliament to consider removing the other accounts (OA) of state-owned enterprises.
Tuesday (Aug. 28)
Lawmakers discussed a report by Myanmar Investment Commission for the 2017-18 fiscal year in the Union Parliament. Upper House lawmaker U Khun Win Thaung complained that potential foreign investors do not have the confidence to invest here because they think some investment laws of the country can be stretched by the regulator at will.
Wednesday (Aug. 29)
The Lower House approved the proposal of lawmaker U Hla Moe, which urged the Union government to promote research in the country’s higher education sector and grant sufficient funds for researchers.
Thursday (Aug. 30)
Deputy Finance and Planning Minister U Maung Maung Win submitted the president’s proposal to obtain $61.8 million in loans through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund from EXIM Bank of Korea.
Friday (Aug. 31)
The Parliament refused to allow lawmaker U Thaung Aye of the opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party to submit a proposal regarding Facebook’s deleting of the account of Myanmar Army Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, citing human rights abuses.
His proposal would urge the Union government to raise official objection to Facebook’s deleting of the accounts of 20 individuals and organizations including Myanmar military television network Myawady.
The Parliament however rejected his proposal, saying that it is against the parliamentary by-laws.
