Shan State Army South leader Lt-Gen Yawdserk has informed the organization’s central committee that he wants to step down after 18 years as chairman, the Shan Herald Agency for News reports. “A commission will be formed to elect the new chairperson,” he said. “But I would like to be sure that the cause will be able to move forward without me at the helm. For this purpose, I would be happy to serve as a counsel to the new leader.” Yawdserk is 55 and the Shan armed group has two vice-chairmen: Maj-Gen Sai Yi, who is 57, and Col Kherh Ngeun, 62.
