The United Wa State Army (UWSA) has released 20 soldiers from the Shan State Army-South (SSA-South) following a meeting between representatives of the two groups last Sunday, according to the Shan Herald Agency for News. Prior to the meeting, which took place in Hwe Aw, Shan State, 24 km north of the border with Thailand’s Chiang Mai Province, SSA-South leader Lt-Gen Yawd Serk sent a letter to his UWSA counterpart, Bao Youxiang. The report said that the Shan troops had been in UWSA custody for more than six weeks, but did not explain how they had fallen into UWSA hands.
