UEC Dismisses NLD Waxed Ballot Paper Complaint
10 May 2012
Burma’s Union Election Commission (UEC) has dismissed NLD accusations that ballot papers at 11 polling stations were waxed to prevent people voting for the NLD, according to the state-run New Light of Myanmar. The accusations received wide publicity in the Burmese press after the NLD made them at a press conference. The UEC said the complaints were groundless and recommended that the person who made them should be prosecuted because of the damage done to Burma’s international reputation. The UEC also warned the secretary of the NLD that he would face prosecution if he repeated the accusations.
