The Shan Nationalities Development Party (SNDP), Burma’s third-largest political party, and the Phalon Sawah Democratic Party have left a 10-party alliance and formed a new federation, according to an SNDP statement released on Wednesday. The two parties split from the alliance on Sunday over objections to a proposal to call for proportional representation in national elections slated for 2015. They later formed the Nationalities Brotherhood Federation, together with the Chin National Party, Kayan National Party, Rakhine Nationalities Development Party and All Mon Region Democracy Party.
