The All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP) and the Mon Democratic Party (MDP) released a statement over the weekend announcing plans to form a single party, according to the Independent Mon News Agency. The joint statement, released on Saturday, outlines a four-point agreement under which the merger will take place. “The party members who don’t accept the union will be left behind. As a responsible leader, I resolutely made this decision,” said AMDP Chairman Nai Ngwe Thein. The two parties are divided over their stance on Burma’s military-drafted 2008 Constitution.
