Thein Sein Postpones Bangladesh Tour
2 July 2012
Burmese President Thein Sein has postponed a planned visit to Bangladesh in mid-July, a Foreign Ministry official said on Sunday. The official said that the visit has been put off because of the state of emergency that has been imposed in Arakan State, where clashes broke out a month ago between ethnic Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims. The two countries were expected to discuss the violence in Arakan State, which borders Bangladesh. The visit will be rescheduled for sometime after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins in the third week of July.
