The Thai government has denied reports that Burmese President Thein Sein asked Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra earlier this week to reduce the size of the Dawei special economic zone. Thai PM’s Office Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan, who is also the chairman of a bilateral committee coordinating the project, said that it was two Burmese members of the committee who made the request, not the president. According to The Bangkok Post, which had earlier reported Thein Sein’s alleged request, Niwatthamrong said it would be impossible to scale down the project at this stage.
