Thousands of expectant locals were disappointed when bad weather forced President Thein Sein to cancel his planned trip to Kachin State, Eleven Media reports. The president was slated to visit Myitkyina, the state capital, on Saturday ahead of peace talks between the central government and the Kachin Independence Organization. People reportedly lined the streets in the rain beginning at 7:30am to greet Thein Sein, but were informed at 11am that the president’s plane was unable to land. “The plane could not land due to bad weather and there was no other reason. We don’t know exactly when he will rearrange his tour,” said Naung Tein, the Kachin State chief minister’s personal assistant.
