Thandwe Death Toll Rises to 7 With Discovery of Two More Bodies

11 October 2013

Police in Arakan State have recovered two more bodies, bringing the total death toll from last week’s communal violence in the troubled region to seven, BBC reports. The two men, both Buddhists, were among a group of six people traveling through a violence wracked village in Tandwe Township on Oct. 1 when the vehicle was attacked. The other four passengers escaped, but the two men went missing. Their bodies were discovered by local residents and police in the Linthi village cemetery. Last week, five other people, all Muslims, were reportedly killed in the latest round of communal violence pitting Buddhists against Muslims in Burma.
