One of Thailand’s leading providers of mobile phone services has become the first international company to offer a data-roaming service in Burma, reports The Bangkok Post. Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS) has partnered with the state-run Myanma Posts and Telecommunications to provide the new service, which will allow international visitors to download data at a rate of six baht (US$0.20) per megabyte. “It is essential to have a roaming service in Myanmar due to the large number of Thais and foreign visitors through Thailand visiting the country,” said Pratthana Leelapanang, the company’s senior vice-president for digital products and services. Last year, 1.95 million Thais visited Burma, a sharp increase from 95,000 in 2012.
