Thai Task Force on Dawei Heads to Burma
7 November 2013
A Thai government task force headed by Energy Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal will travel to Burma on Thursday to try to kick-start the stalling Dawei industrial zone project, reports The Bangkok Post. The team, which will also include officials from the Finance and Interior Ministries and the National Economic and Social Development Board, will try to settle issues with the project before a meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee in Bangkok later this month. “Project development has been stuck because of different ideas between Italian-Thai Development (IDC) Co.’s Dawei Development Co. and the Myanmar government,” a government source said. IDC, Thailand’s biggest contractor by market value, has been granted the concession to develop a deep-sea port and special economic zone in Dawei.
