Thailand’s embattled Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has canceled her plans to attend the 27th Southeast Asia Games opening ceremony, which will be held in Naypyidaw on Wednesday, Democratic Voice of Burma reports. “We have been informed by Thailand that Prime Minister [Yingluck] won’t be able to attend the ceremony and the deputy prime minister will be making an appearance in her stead,” said a Burma Foreign Affairs official, adding that Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean was scheduled to attend but has also canceled. Yingluck is facing a mounting political crisis and violent protests against her government in Thailand’s capital Bangkok.
