Norwegian telecom firm Telenor announced that its SIM cards will go on sale in October and that it expects to sell about 30 million cards in a short period of time, the Myanma Freedom Daily reports. “We’ll sell 30 million SIM cards as soon as we launch our operations—as that’s half the size of Myanmar’s estimated population, we’ll quickly be within our goal of reaching the entire market,” said Petter Furberg, Telenor CEO, adding that the firm would introduce a 2G system “so that everyone can subscribe.” Telenor and Ooredoo are the only two licensed international telecoms in Burma.
