Visiting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Burma’s Vice President Nyan Tun in Naypyidaw on Sunday, according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency. Yang, whose position in the Chinese government is immediately below the vice-premiers and above the ministers of various departments, said that China would unshakably push the bilateral friendship, respect Burma’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and support Burma to pursue a path of development that conforms to its status. Yang also met the same day with Lower House Speaker Shwe Mann, who returned last week from a trip to Washington.
