Lt-Gen Myint Soe, commander of the Bureau of Special Operations-1, which oversees military operations in Kachin State, has denied that the Burma Army launched attacks in Kachin and Shan states in recent months, Mizzima reports. The ethnic groups’ Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team met with the government peace negotiations team and six senior army commanders, including Myint Soe, on Monday. “I explained during the meeting that the military did not launch any offensives,” he told reporters following the talks. Kachin, Palaung and Shan armed groups have reported, however, that their defense posts have come under attack since November.
