Rohingyas Occupy Delhi Neighborhood

20 April 2012

Hundreds of Rohingya men, women and children have been camping out near the office of the UN Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in New Delhi’s exclusive Vasant Vihar neighborhood for the past week, according to a report by The Times of India. The protesters, who have been recognized by the UNHCR as asylum seekers, but not as refugees, say they want full recognition so they can receive financial support. Other refugees from Burma living in India “are living in much better conditions than us,” said Zia Ur Rahman, one of the protesters.
