Separatist rebels in the northeastern India state of Manipur launched a series of attacks on security posts near the Burmese border on Tuesday, according to a report by the Press Trust of India. The report said that in one incident, around 100 militants surrounded and fired on a post of the 35th Assam Rifles in the Aigejang hill area of Manipur’s Chandel District. The Indian paramilitary forces returned fire, and the two sides clashed for about an hour. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, another group set off a powerful improvised explosive device near the post of 39th Assam Rifles personnel who were patrolling the Behiang area near the Burma-India border.
