Residents from the village of Thityarkauk in Magwe Division say they were denied government permission to protest remarks made by Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development Minister Ohn Myint, Myanma Freedom Daily reported on Monday. “They gave us three reasons for rejecting our application,” said Nay Win Soe, a local villager. “One is the demonstration can cause traffic jam … second is it may jeopardize rule of law and dispute between Government and public; and third is the problem has already been handled in the Hluttaw [Parliament].” On a Jan. 28 visit to Thityarkauk, Ohn Myint said he would “dare to slap” anyone who objected to the government.
