Buddhist monks and others gathered near central Rangoon’s Sule Pagoda on Sunday to protest against TIME magazine for its recent cover story on religious violence in Burma. The cover of the July 1 issue of the magazine, which features a picture of Wirathu, the leader of the Burmese Buddhist nationalist 969 movement and the words “The Face of Buddhist Terror,” has angered some Burmese Buddhists, who see it as an insult to their religion. Although some local media reported that more than a thousand people took part in the protest, others put the number at between 200 and 300.
