National League for Democracy (NLD) candidates elected to Parliament in by-elections last week say they will push for the release of Burma’s remaining political prisoners when they go to Naypyidaw on April 23, according to a report by Mizzima. Around two-thirds of the 43 NLD MPs-elect have served prison sentences for their political activities. According to the Thailand-based Assistance Association for Political Prisoners—Burma, there are 494 confirmed cases of political prisoners still in detention, while another 465 cases are under investigation.
