Representatives from five political parties in Burma are on a weeklong visit to Beijing, according to The New Light of Myanmar. The state-run daily reported that the delegation is making the trip at the invitation of the External Communication Department of the Chinese Communist Party. The parties represented include the National Democratic Force, the National Unity Party, the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party, the All Mon Regions Democracy Party and the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party. The representatives will spend time in Beijing, Kunming and “other towns in China.” The report did not indicate the delegation’s intended purpose.
