A senior sports official from the Philippines has expressed concern about the safety of his country’s athletes as Burma prepares to host the Southeast Asian Games in the wake of a series of bomb blasts across Burma that have killed three people, Agence France-Presse reports. “We are monitoring this very closely,” Philippine Sports Commission chief Richie Garcia was quoted as saying late last week. “As long as our athletes and officials are not endangering themselves we will take part. But we have to make sure there are no problems when we get there.” The Philippines will send more than 200 athletes to the competition, which will be held from Dec. 11-22.
