Parliament Changes Names of Two Ministries
9 November 2012
Burma’s Union Parliament agreed on Thursday to change the name of two ministries, according to a report by the state-run newspaper The New Light of Myanmar. Henceforth, the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs will be known as the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, while the Ministry of Labor will be the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security. No reason was given for the change, which was initially proposed by President Thein Sein, although it is assumed that it is part of an effort to update the ministries’ respective roles.
