China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited the National League for Democracy (NLD) to visit the country next month, Eleven Media reports. NLD spokesman Nyan Win confirmed the scheduled trip, which will see 10 members of Burma’s main opposition party visit China under an official invite from Beijing for the first time. The NLD, at one point declared illegal by Burma’s militart regime, participated in by-elections in 2012 and won 43 of the 44 seats it contested. Last week it was reported that Aung San Suu Kyi, the NLD chairwoman, had also planned a visit to Burma’s northern neighbor, but a different NLD spokesperson on Thursday denied the rumor.
