Three days ahead of its first party congress in 24 years, Burma’s National League for Democracy (NLD) announced that four NLD representatives would not be invited to attend the event. In a statement on Tuesday the NLD Congress Commission said the four were disinvited as they had “aimed to destroy the party’s unity,” adding that there were sufficient grounds for these accusations. The NLD rejected Mi Mi Gyi from Kawlin Township, Sagaing Division and three members from Rangoon Division; Khin Maung Win from Lamadaw Township, Thant Zin from Shwepyithar Township and Khin Maung Shein from Rangoon-North Constituency. The NLD’s three-day Congress will start on Friday.
