Tensions between the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Burma Army remain high, after about 100 government troops approached the ethnic Mon rebels’ Japan Mountain base in Mon State’s Thanbyuzayat Township last weekend, the Independent Mon News Agency reports. There was no confrontation, but local NMSP commander Banyar Dute said a government commander told the rebels “that no Mon units are allowed. I replied that there is no such order given to us yet to leave the base.” Last week, NMSP units were pressured by government troops to leave a base in Yeedakon village in the same township.
