Mitsubishi Electric, one of Japan’s leading makers of electrical and electronic goods, will open an office in Rangoon on April 25, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. The new office, to be set up by Singapore-based subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric Asia Pte Ltd, will coordinate efforts to expand business in Burma by conducting market research, collecting information and providing support for infrastructure projects and local distributors, the statement said. The company notes that it has been selling products and services for infrastructure development in the country since 1960, and consumer goods since the 1990s, but is now increasing its presence as foreign investment for the development of infrastructure and special economic zones accelerates in the wake of economic reforms.
