Dr Cynthia Maung’s long-running Mae Tao Clinic, which supports tens of thousands of Burmese refugees in Thailand’s Tak province, is facing a funding shortfall after Ausaid decided to cut its support, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. The Australian development agency provided US$456,000 last year and the aid makes up about a quarter of the medical charity’s budget. Last month, Ausaid announced it will not extend its support into 2014. “This money was crucial to improving maternal and child health-quality services to these vulnerable people on the border,” Cynthia Maung was quoted as saying. “We’re at a loss to understand the decision.”
