Workers of Kaung Myanmar Aung Shipping Company have clashed with farmers following a dispute over land located on Rangoon’s outskirts in Dagon Township, Eleven Media reports. Workers of the company, which is owned by Cooperative Bank director and influential government advisor Khin Maung Aye, attempted to erect a fence on a 50-acre plot of land, but farmers tried to stop them. Workers then used broken bricks and slingshots to drive them away, the farmers claim. Five farmers were reportedly injured and some are preparing to file a legal complaint against the company. Farmers say the land was forcibly seized by the previous military government.
